Valentines Day. Let’s Start Again Shall We?

Valentines Day. Let’s Start Again Shall We?

Ah Valentines Day, you ol’ devil. The world makes you feel like you’re a little alone if you’re single (not my words, friends have openly admitted this so I can say that) and if you’re with someone special, puts a heap of pressure on you both to have a romantic day through buying flowers, going out for dinner and generally buying things because you feel you should.

I do like the idea of treating yourself, partner or someone special in your life, but how’s about we forget the cards, the flowers and going out for dinner and actually turn our phones off and connect with that special person in your life (yes, I’m still talking to you single fabulous people out there). All of the suggestions below cost nothing, can be done by yourself or with a partner and I guarantee it will make you feel more loved than spending time in a restaurant that is crowded, the service is lousy because it’s so busy and you can’t hear each other speak.

I wrote a few other suggestions (listed below) first and then thought about me. I should be the first person I think about on Valentines Day and you should remember that too. Celebrate you. What are you in love with about yourself? What do you admire about yourself? What is your favourite bit of your body? I could list a million things I dislike about me but how’s about switching that around and falling in love with the main person in your life (and that’s you FYI). Take 5 minutes (or even less if you’re a mega busy Londoner) and just appreciate you and how blinkin’ great you are, because if you don’t love yourself, then how do you expect other people to love you in the way that you want?

Turn off your phone and speak to each other. Mr Glow Getter and I have extremely bad habits of sitting next to each other and only after an hour, we realised we have barely said two words to each other because we’ve been sat on our phones. Oops. Even if you’re single, how much time in the evening do you do this as well? Maybe turn your phone off, watch time get a little slower and do something that your future self with thank you for.

Have a bath. Single or with someone, this can be fun in lots of ways. I’ll leave the rest to your imagination.

Get outside. I don’t care if it’s cold, put a coat on, women up, and see what’s out there in your backyard. It makes you feel alive.

Talk about what you want out of life. This can be journaling, talking to yourself in the mirror, talking to your partner and getting a bit vulnerable. I recently went to a Lululemon goal setting workshop and part of that was telling the person closest to you about your goals so they can hold you accountable when you slack off. It really does work as I tell my boyfriend about what I want and he does hold me accountable but in the nicest way possible and it really helps.

If on the other hand you would also like a cute little Valentines Day makeup look to go with all those other suggestions, then I did that too. It’s my Valentines Day gift to you. Enjoy gorgeous. You’re amazing.
